Almost every house in a community has a backyard. But most backyards are left barren. Only a few are planted with plants that bear fruits and vegetables like eggplants, okra, string beans, cassava, radish and sweet potato. A backyard that is quite small for a garden can be used for raising poultry for food and for additional income too.
A backyard can provide facilities for a flock of chicken. A poultry-man can start with about 40 to 60 chicks. These numbers allow for some losses from disease or accident and will supply enough eggs and some meat for a small family. While a large flock may become a source of income if there is a local demand for fresh eggs and meat.
